Welcome to the October edition of N.E.T.M.A. News where you’ll never have to say, “Nobody Ever Tells Me Anything!”

From the Youth Pastor

There's an old cheer that I’ve heard the cheerleaders use after games that goes something like, "We are proud of you; yeah we are proud of you!" That's how I am feeling about our youth ministry right now. We have had a wonderful start to our new youth year and Sunday morning Bible study. We have several new leaders helping out in the youth ministry and things have begun without any glitches, that I know of. In case you were not aware of it, we have a Wednesday night youth worship time that we call Power Hour. We have made several changes in Power Hour this year and God is doing some amazing things during this hour. So much so,  we have youth requesting that we continue with upgrading this hour and call it Power Hour 1.5, because they would like to see us transition from an hour format to an hour and a half each week. Just stop and allow that to soak in for a minute...teens wanting to worship for an hour and a half. WOW! By the way, we have been averaging just over eighty teens in attendance each week, along with another dozen or so adults. Our highest attendance so far was our” See You At the Pole” recap the last Wednesday in September. We had ninety-six youth there! Speaking of See You at the Pole, what an amazing experience it is for me to be able to attend several events at different schools and to see Bonsack teens in action stepping out and leading at their school flagpoles. Whether they were organizing, praying or providing live music, we have some awesome teens stepping up into leadership! We have teens in the church orchestra helping to lead in worship each week, and a couple of weeks ago, I was blessed to lead the vesper service at the Glebe and had a couple of our teens go with me to help. As my Grandma used to say, "I'm just proud as a peacock" with our teens. With all the bad press teens can receive, I wanted our church family to be aware that Bonsack Baptist Church is in the business of raising up some leaders, not just for the future, but in the present. Thanks to all of our parents, our youth ministry volunteers and our church for working together to help equip the saints for ministry. "We are proud of you; yeah we are proud of you!"  and as their parents, you should be as well.

Youth Help Needed with Two October Events

We have two events this month in which we need youth participation. Please talk with your teen and encourage them to help where they can. Both of these are service opportunities for our youth to give back to the church.

1)      Church Picnic – This event is at Blue Ridge Park following the morning worship on October 18. We need youth to be available to help with face painting. If interested, teens are asked to contact Sara Kennedy at 339-4014, or by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We also need some teens to be available to supervise the moon bounce that will be there. This will require them to stand outside the entrance and make sure that everything remains orderly.

2)      Trunk or Treat – We need youth to help with games that are going to be available for the children to play, and we need youth to bring candy to be handed out at the games. Trunk or Treat will take place on the upper parking lot from 5 to 6:30 on October 31. Youth will be hearing more about this in the morning announcements at church.

October Dates to Remember

04Dana Jorgensen in Concert – Dana is a singer/song writer who is Canadian by birth and now resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Dana has been the worship leader for camps and retreats. He will be in our morning worship service and will lead our evening worship service. You will want to invite your friends to come and be a part of this worship experience.

·         7:30Jr./Sr. and Parent Mission Trip Meeting – For the first time ever, we are hoping to provide an overseas Spring break mission trip for our Junior and Senior youth. If all goes well, we may make this an every other year experience. This meeting will be an informational meeting about a trip to South Africa.

07FCA Blast at Central Academy Middle School – This will take the place of Acteens, Baptist Young Men and Power Hour. In years past we have attended the Fields of Faith , an FCA-sponsored event. This year we will be attending this FCA Blast instead. It will feature Dana Jorgensen and his band. We will leave from Bonsack at 6:15 and return to Bonsack at 9:45. We may need extra drivers for this event. Please contact Danny if you can help with transportation.

09-11 Jr. High Weekend at Eagle Eyrie – All youth who have signed up and paid their deposits should have already received an informational letter concerning this trip. Please contact Danny ASAP if you do not have the needed information or if you have any questions.

14Sr. Gab – This is a gathering for Seniors and Danny to begin to look ahead to life following high school, as well as to do some reflection. This first Gab session will take place at Bratcher’s Ice Cream shop following Power Hour and will last until 9:30.

18Annual Church-wide Picnic - Come to church in your picnic attire and then make plans to head over to Blue Ridge Park after the morning worship for food, fun and fellowship. We will be asking youth to do face painting and to help oversee the moon bounce. There will be no activities at church that night.

24ScareMare at Liberty University – The cost for ScareMare is $10/person and needs to be paid no later than Wednesday, October 21, to guarantee your spot. ScareMare is an evangelistic opportunity for our youth to invite their non-churched friends to come and experience. This can be frightening to many. Participants will experience death depicted in a variety of ways, culminating with Jesus’ death on the cross. Following their walk through ScareMare, participants will hear the plan of salvation and be invited to respond.  We will leave the church at 6:30 pm and return around 10:30. We need additional adult drivers and chaperones for this trip, so please contact Danny if you can help.

31Trunk or Treat and Youth Halloween Fellowship – We have youth helping to lead games at the church for Trunk or Treat from 5 to 6:30 pm. From 7 to 9 pm we will be at the Jeter farm for the haunted corn maze and then back to the church for some fellowship. The cost is $6 for the corn maze. This is always a fun event.
