Welcome to the August Edition of N.E.T.M.A. News Where you won’t ever have to say, “Nobody Ever Tells Me Anything!

From the Youth Pastor

WOW! What a summer it has been so far, and for many of students, it comes to a close this month as they head back to school. But fear not! We aren’t finished yet. This month holds several things as we wrap up our summer and head into a new youth year. This month we bid farewell to Lewis and Laura, our summer youth interns. Laura’s last day with us will be Sunday, August 2. We will have a going- away time for her at the evening S.N.A.C. at the Wingfield’s. Laura is headed off on a week-long family vacation before she heads back to East Carolina University for her junior year. Lewis will be with us until Sunday, August 9. Both of them have given to our ministry in a variety of ways this summer and we have benefited from their ministry to us. Be sure to take the time to thank them before they leave us.

With back to school looming on the horizon…what have you done to prepare your teen for heading back out into the world? One of our youth led us in our prayer time the other evening and said something to the effect of, “God help us to stay focused on the decisions we have made this summer so that as we head back to school in a few weeks we will be salt and light on our school campus.” We have done everything we possibly could this summer to help our teens grow in their relationship with Christ so that they will be “salt and light”, but this needs to be a team effort. As parents, we are the ones who are the primary spiritual guides to our kids. We need to be discipling them at home, in the car, at the store, at the pool, at the beach, and everywhere we go. That’s my way of stating Deuteronomy 6:6-9, “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gatesIt’s never too late to start. Challenge your teens to be salt and light by discovering unique ways in which to “impress God’s commands” on your child. Then you may just be able to breathe a little easier as you send them out the door and back into the world.

Youth Medical Forms

It’s that time of year when we need parents to give us an updated medical and consent form. Enclosed with the youth calendar for August was a Parental Consent/Medical Release Form. We need you to fill it out and return it to the church office ASAP! No youth can go on a trip without having one on file. Please be sure to complete the form and know that these are in a notebook in my possession at all times, so the information will not be accessible to others. After making a recent trip to the emergency room, I can tell you that all of the information on the form is necessary.

 Important Kroger Card Information

Several of you have had problems with the magnetic strip on your Kroger cards. Please be aware of two important facts. First, do not let Kroger give you a new replacement card. When you don’t get your card from me your number is not tracked and you will not get the 5% rewards from your purchases. Second, when you are no longer using your Kroger card, please turn it into me so that I can let the person tracking the cards know that number is no longer being used before we destroy the card.

If you would like to purchase a Kroger card and start receiving money back from your purchases for your child’s youth account, contact Danny.

S.N.A.C. locations for August are as follows:

02 – Wingfield’s
09 – Arney’s
16 – Kennedy’s

Please remember that in order to attend S.N.A.C., youth MUST first attend the evening worship service and that they will need to be picked up at the church at 10 p.m. to go home.

Jr. High Weekend at Eagle Eyrie

Jr. High Weekend at Eagle Eyrie is October 11-13. The theme is Up2You! and is based on Hebrews 12:1-2, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  Jr. High Weekend is open to students who will be in the 7th through 9th grade for the 2009/2010 school year. It is a weekend filled with worship, fellowship and special interest conferences designed specifically for young adolescents. This is a great get-away for youth to experience a camp setting and for them to plug into the youth group. The cost for the weekend is $80 with a $10 non-refundable deposit due no later than Sunday, September 13. Please be sure to put your deposit into an envelope marked with your child’s name and “JHW” on it. Give the envelope to Danny or put it in the “Youth” mail slot in the reception area of the church office. You can email Danny if you wish to have the deposit taken out of their youth account.
