From the Youth Pastor
The summer interns have been here for a couple of weeks now. My calendar is looking CRAZY. Students are counting down the days. Seniors are preparing for graduation. All of this can only mean that summer is just seconds away from steam-rolling into our lives! June is here, so as Stephen Curtis Chapman sang, saddle up your horses and get ready for the great adventure! Be sure to check out all of the exciting things that are on the June calendar, as well as the important sign-ups that are in the Power House so that you can stay aware and up-to-date on all the youth ministry happenings this summer.
I am already very grateful to have Laura Bowser and Lewis Kleiner with us this summer as our interns. Both of them have hit the ground running and have brought a variety of gifts to share with our ministry. Please take the time to get to know each of them over the course of the summer. Invite them out to eat after church. Have them over to your house. Be present at youth events and talk with them. Whatever you choose, don’t miss the opportunity of getting to know them.
Pastor Bob has been preaching a series on parenting that deals with the survey that a Christian author put together. He surveyed hundreds of parents about personal parenting traits they desire to exemplify and pass on to their kids, and he came up with a top ten list of traits they wanted and they are: Affirming, Patient, Attentive, Visionary, Connecting, Celebrating, Authentic, Comforting, Insightful and, Godly. I want to remind you that each month the church provides a magazine that will help you with your parenting called, Living with Teenagers. You can find a copy at the info board in the hallway near the sanctuary. Help us recycle by taking one and reading it and then bring it back for someone else to pick up and enjoy.
With summer knocking at the door, that also means that we have a couple of major youth trips coming up. Please remember that we have two special meetings this month to give you all the necessary information you will need for Centrifuge and Impact VA! With so many people attending these camps, we need to have at least one parent and teenager present at the meetings for their camp. Also, we will be collecting the final payments at these meetings. Check out the calendar for meeting dates and times. Barry has been in contact with those of you heading to SonPower this month.
Important Kroger Card Information
Several of you have had problems with the magnetic strip on your Kroger cards. Please be aware of these two important facts. First, do not let Kroger give you a new replacement card. When you don’t get your card from me, your number is not tracked and you will not get the 5% rewards from your purchases. Second, when you are no longer using your Kroger card, please turn it in to me so that I can let the person tracking the cards know that number is no longer being used before the card is destroyed.
If you would like to purchase a Kroger card and start receiving money back from your purchases for your child’s youth account, just contact Danny.
S.N.A.C. Summer time is quickly approaching which means that Sunday Night After Church is as well!
We will be looking for some people to host S.N.A.C.’s throughout the summer. Here are some common S.N.A.C. questions and answers.
Q - What is S.N.A.C.?
A - This is an acronym for Sunday Night After Church. It is a fellowship time from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m., but youth MUST attend the evening activities at church in order to attend S.N.A.C. for that night.
Q – Where is S.N.A.C. held?
A – We ask parents to open up their homes for youth to come and hang out. Sometimes we may go to a home with a swimming pool. Other times we may go to a home with some games of some type. Even other times, parents have gotten together and hosted S.N.A.C. at a location like Putt-Putt or the bowling alley.
Q. – Is there food involved?
A – We ask students to bring a drink and snack to share. Sometimes the host home provides grilled hot dogs, ice cream or pizza, but it is not necessary. As long as the students do their part by bringing the drinks and snacks there is always food available.
Q – How do I offer up my home or put a S.N.A.C. together?
A – Contact Danny to see what dates fit your schedule and sign up! Available S.N.A.C. dates for this summer are July 12, 19, 26 and August 02 and 09.
